Examining Attitudes Towards Abortion in a Faith-Based MSW Program: Implications for Curriculum Development

With the overturn of Roe v Wade, a clearer understanding of student attitudes towards abortion is needed. From 141 surveys of MSW students attending a faith based university, findings suggest diverse student attitudes, a desire for increased skill development to work effectively with clients, and suggestions for curriculum development.

Learning Objectives:

  1. 1. Participants will gain increased understanding of MSW students attending a faith based university attitudes towards abortion.
  2. 2.. Participants will be able to articulate the impact of spirituality and political affiliation on attitudes towards abortion of highly diverse MSW students attending a faith based university.
  3. 3. Participants will examine implications for curriculum in both secular and faith based programs in preparing students to work with people deciding whether or not to terminate a pregnancy.
