An innovative Field Education Lab utilized a range of experiential digital learning techniques—including online synchronous simulation—to develop foundational digital skills transferrable into evidence-based, ethical practice. MSW students (n=42) expressed that the experience provided important opportunities to develop and apply their skills while promoting realism and applicability to practice.
Learning Objectives:
Learners will gain insight into the development of digital curriculum. This will include the emerging evidence on effective development and implementation of online curricula to build competencies and skills in contemporary social work practice.
Learners will receive an overview of current best practices for using experiential learning techniques—particularly simulation—in online social work education. This will be followed by strategies for application and evaluation.
Learners will become cognizant of online modalities as an opportunity to build specialized skills among MSW students. In particular, learners will understand using online education strategies for developing competencies and skills in substance use and misuse.
