Empowering Social Workers: Anti-Racism, Indigenous Knowledge, and Environmental Advocacy in Training Academies

Using the Garneur health education equity framework centering around Indigenous knowledge, the * program provides anti-racist education connecting historical trauma to contemporary issues. This presentation provides program data and discusses the opportunities and challenges to dismantle racist systems in education across the lifespan.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop knowledge and skills to incorporate critical pedagogical approaches that promote Indigenous knowledge and partner with Indigenous students, educators, and communities in healthcare settings.
  2. Gain knowledge and understanding of the impact of war on Indigenous communities, including the preservation of the environment as a pillar of peace and justice.
  3. Understand the importance of engaging educators in critical pedagogy around health equity issues and how to implement this in healthcare settings.
