Increasing Social Capital Among Caregivers of NICU Graduates in Rural Appalachia

This research focuses on caregivers of children born with extremely low birth weights (micro-preemies) in rural Appalachia. A conceptual framework will be presented to address caregiver social and economic support needs of NICU graduates in rural Appalachia and propose mechanisms for providing social and economic support.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to identify challenges of caregivers of micro-preemies in rural Appalachia.
  2. Upon completion of the presentation, participants will have an understanding of social capital challenges in rural Appalachia.
  3. Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to identify potential health outcomes of micro preemies.
