Living Into Our Values: Supporting Trans and Nonbinary Students in Practicum Education

Practicum education is a pivotal stage of professional development for social work students, yet little is known about the experience of trans and nonbinary (TNB) students during this process. This study explores the perspectives of social work practicum educators regarding their experience working with TNB students during practicum.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize an ethical obligation to provide transgender-inclusive social work education.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to understand barriers identified by practicum education faculty and staff in creating transgender-inclusive social work educational experiences.
  3. Upon completion, participants will be able to identify concrete strategies to create transgender-inclusive education experiences.
