This panel explores the significance of centering critical social theories in social work education and research. Panelists will review the history, current evolution(s), and explore ways in which such theories can be incorporated in social work educational settings to support the development of critical analysis and transformative praxis.

Upon completion, the participant will be able to define critical social theory, to include its historical lineage, current evolution(s), and significance within social work education and research
Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify the ways in which interdisciplinary, socio-political-historical context and critique, qualitative methods and approaches, and liberatory/emancipatory praxis are central to critical social theories and deeply relevant to social work education and research
Upon completion, the participant will be able to recognize the integral role of critical theory in conceptual and theoretical frameworks specific to social work research.
