This systematic review explores childhood trauma's role in adolescent opioid misuse, aiming to identify relevant studies, assess measurement methods, and evaluate research methods. Although findings revealed physical and/or sexual abuse elevates the likelihood of opioid misuse, with gender disparities noted, more research is needed.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will gain insights into the state of the research literature on the relationship between childhood trauma and adolescent opioid use.
Participants will be able to articulate the gaps in the literature regarding the relationship between childhood trauma and adolescent opioid use.
Participants will be able to articulate why more research is needed to understand the effects of multiple forms of childhood trauma.
