Session: Rural Issues in Mental Health and in Truth and Reconciliation

Head Start on Mental Health for Mothers and Children Living in Rural Low-Income Neighborhood

Head Start impact was examined on mental health outcomes for mothers and children living in rural low income neighborhood. Despite the Head Start's intergenerational model, Head Start impact was not prevalent for parents which suggest for more intensive and barrier free intervention for families living in rural low income households.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe at-risk/resilience factors for families with young children living in rural low income neighborhood.
  2. Evaluate culturally and environmentally appropriate intervention programs that fully recognize families living in rural communities.
  3. Apply research evidence to appropriate intervention programs and policies that will better serve the families living in rural low income neighborhood.
