Despite the increase in mental health needs during COVID-19, the large-scale implementation of virtual care, and efforts to increase the number of Spanish-speaking mental health professionals, being Spanish-speaking continues to be a barrier to accessing mental health services based on data from the 2021 and 2022 National Health Interview Survey.
Learning Objectives:
Expand their understanding of the current state of the mental health system as it relates to Spanish speakers' mental health utilization in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of Telehealth.
Increase their awareness and inform advocacy surrounding mental health barriers for Spanish-speakers.
Develop a critical lens of how this disparity is tied to colonization.
