Clutching the Pearls: Evaluating the Impact of LGBTQ+ Content in Social Work Curriculum

Evidence suggests that biases exist towards 2LGBTQIA+ people by social workers themselves and within the overall educational climate in which social work students learn. A quasi-experimental evaluation was conducted of LGBTQ+ competency development of multiple cohorts of social work students taking an original applied elective on working with LGBTQ+ publics.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate a model graduate social curriculum for applied practices with 2LGBTQIAPK+ publics.
  2. Describe competencies that promote Queer-affirmative social work practice.
  3. Define both implicit and explicit curriculum for social work programs that support 2LGBTQIAPK+ populations and reduce anti-Queer biases and stigma.
