Ethnic Differences in Subjective Perceptions About Domestic Violence in Asian American Communities

Overview: This study examined the ethnic differences in Asian community members’ subjective perceptions of domestic violence (DV), including attitude toward DV, stigma about DV, the sense of community support for survivors, and knowledge about DV. The findings suggest significant ethnic differences. Research and policy implications are discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to understand the differences in individuals’ subjective perceptions of DV among Asian ethnic groups.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the need to disaggregate data when working with Asian American community members.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to demonstrate the importance of developing culturally responsive prevention efforts for DV.
