Pedagogy of Hope: Professional Development for Social Workers Affected by Russia’s War in Ukraine

This CSWE Panel discusses the integration of the Pedagogy of Hope approach, indigenous voices, and local knowledge in the professional development of social workers engaged in direct practice and exposed to the trauma of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Presenters will discuss integrating the local context into social work capacity development.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the process of integrating Pedagogy of Hope, indigenous voices, and local knowledge in the professional development of social workers engaged in direct practice and exposed to the trauma of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
  2. Identify key components of culturally informed social work practice education within a war setting and explain how global learning experiences emphasize reciprocity collaborations between social work programs and local communities.
  3. Explore the ways social workers can organize across geography and experiences to promote hope and professional resilience, building communities of practice both with and among social workers who are very much on the front lines.
