Themes of social injustice were revealed in analysis of research conducted with social work students regarding their lived and learned self-care experiences including disparities, structural barriers, and sociocultural ideologies. Findings suggest a need to redefine self-care to recognize individual context while uplifting collective and systemic responsibility for practitioner well-being.
Learning Objectives:
evaluate their own understanding and accepted definitions of self-care
reflect on the intersection of self-care and social justice
question the ethics of mandated personal professional self-care and the role of collective responsibility in social work practice
