Session: Promoting Safety, Belonging, and Well-being  for Indigenous and Pacific Islander Communities

Weaving a Zine of Queer and Transgender Pacific Islander Stories of Belonging and Wellbeing

This session will report on the results and community data dissemination processes for a qualitative, Indigenist collaborative research study completed with two Queer and Transgender Pacific Islander serving organizations in Washington state. We share our findings on QTPI health promotion and the process for co-developing our community research zine.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to apply Indigenist Collaborative Research research methodologies with Pacific Islander communities. These skills will be transferable for social workers who would like to partner or build relationships with Pacific Islander communities.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to understand some of the health and social issues Queer and Transgender Pacific Islander communities face in WA state. They will also gain community perspectives on how to address these health and social issues.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will gain be able to conceptualize co-created community centered research deliverables for research dissemination. Social work researchers interested in participatory research can expect to expand their knowledge on communicating research, weaving community storytelling, art, and desire in their work.
