Allyship in Action: Navigating Practicum Impasses Using the Liberatory Consciousness Framework

This workshop offers social work educators tools to promote inclusivity and justice through the liberatory consciousness framework in practicum education. Recognizing the entrenched Eurocentric values in the profession’s history, participants will examine historical biases in their current practices and identify ways to foster accountability to disrupt oppression through allyship.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will identify examples of social work education and practicum policies and practices that are oppressive and that they seek to change.
  2. Upon completion, participants will learn the theoretical framework of the liberatory consciousness, discuss actionable steps for developing a liberatory consciousness, and formulate a plan of action to apply them to their practices.
  3. Upon completion, participants will articulate and identify strategies to cultivate allyship and be accountable for developing a liberatory consciousness in their practice.
