Crafting Inclusive Online Learning Environments: Challenging and Redefining Western Perspectives of Knowledge

Based on the Trauma Informed Culturally Responsive (TICR) approach, this session offers strategies for creating online spaces for Historically Marginalized populations, including Indigenous learners. The learning needs of Indigenous students and effective methods for constructing learning environments that consider students’ shared experiences of trauma and diverse identities will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Acquire knowledge to synthesize the specific learning needs of Indigenous students in online learning environments
  2. Examine the skills to integrate Trauma Informed Culturally Responsive (TICR) pedagogical lenses into their online course design and facilitation.
  3. Develop strategies and tools in support strategies for creating culturally inclusive online learning environments that consider the shared experiences of trauma and racial/cultural identities.
