My scoping review results identify the current literature examining acculturation-related stressors and mental health: language barriers, sociocultural stressors, and racism for Asian international students. While other acculturation-related scholars ignore racial and ethnic identity, I argue that racial and ethnic identity is important to enhance the acculturation research field.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the current state of Asian international student education in the U.S. in the context of anti-Asian sentiment and COVID-19.
Describe the effects of acculturation-related stressors (language barriers, sociocultural stressors, and racism) on mental health for Asian international students.
Brainstorm new ways scholars can utilize racial/ethnic identity to examine the different experiences of Asian international students and mental health.
