Socio-Economic and Political Determinants Shaping Abortion Policies Across the States in America

This study identifies major economic, political, and social determinants of health and measures their influences on abortion policies across the US states. Significant associations between the stringency of the state’s abortion policy and the predictors were found in expected direction, illustrating strong influence of people’s political views on abortion policy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify the impact of social, political, and economic factors on abortion policies being supportive or restrictive across the states.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to develop advocacy strategies for making abortion accessible for women through policy initiatives.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to understand the policy context and the impact of restrictive abortion policies on women’s reproductive health and rights.
