Environmental Justice in the Practicum Landscape

This interactive workshop will share one university’s efforts to integrate environmental justice principles and connect the theoretical understanding with practical applications in practicum experiences. Participants will develop skills to incorporate community-specific indigenous knowledge into learning activities and apply research designs to inform effective teaching strategies related to environmental justice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the theoretical concept of environmental justice in the context of social work and will be able to integrate environmental stewardship into their practicum experiences, making meaningful connections between theoretical knowledge and real-world social work scenarios.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to create, utilize, and assess practicum-based learning activities that integrate environmental justice principles and community specific indigenous knowledge.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to implement current research design, incorporating student data, which will inform effective teaching strategies in practicum related to environmental justice.
