Evaluating Interdisciplinary Education: Are We Committed or Performative in Addressing Indigenous Mental Health?

This process evaluation explored four focus groups of MSW and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) students participating in an interdisciplinary experiential training fellowship at Adelphi University from Fall 2021 to Spring 2023. We discuss our program gaps in interdisciplinary education on Indigenous mental health and considerations for program development.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will understand one way to identify gaps in student knowledge on Indigenous mental health within the context of our program model.
  2. Upon completion, participants will understand qualitative methods for program development in an interdisciplinary training program for MSW and PMHNP students.
  3. Upon completion, participants will understand future strategies to address gaps in knowledge in our interdisciplinary training program.
