Impacting Lives: Social Work Training for Conducting Forensic Mental Health Assessments

A training curriculum promoting interprofessional collaboration between mental health, medical, and legal professionals in preparing forensic assessments for immigration proceedings is presented. The types of immigration relief cases that can benefit from such assessments and the complementary roles of professionals in conducting forensic medical and mental health assessments are presented.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify the types of immigration relief cases that can benefit from forensic medical and mental health assessments.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to list the elements of a forensic mental health assessment for immigration legal proceedings.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to articulate the complementary profesional knowledge and skills utilized by mental health, medical, and legal professionals in interprofessional teams supporting clients in immigration legal proceedings that involve the use of medical and forensic mental health assessments.
