Role of Afrocentric Theory in Mitigating Divorce and Separation in Africa

Incorporating African perspectives in research and societal transformation is crucial. Magezi (2018) highlights marriage's role in fostering community bonds, preserving cultural heritage, and contributing to economic stability. Therefore, this paper explores how Afrocentric theory can help address issues related to marriage, such as divorce and separation, in the African context.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will gain insight into the significance of Afrocentric theory in addressing marriage-related issues, specifically divorce and separation, within the African context.
  2. Upon completion, participants will explore how Afrocentric principles challenge Eurocentric perspectives and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the cultural, historical, and social dimensions of African marriages.
  3. Upon completion, participants will critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of Afrocentric theory in addressing divorce and separation within African communities.
