This dynamic presentation will provide an overview of simulation-based learning (SBL) within the context of social work education and examine its use, specifically, in relation to assessment. SBL will be explored as a tool for enhancing realistic and interactive learning experiences that foster empathy, critical thinking and effective practice skills. The presentation will also highlight opportunities for utilizing SBL to better prepare students for active and authentic engagement in anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion (ADEI). Reviewing simulation-based learning activities and discussing best practices will be supplemented with engaging the audience in dialogue and showing demonstration videos.
Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to define simulation-based learning as an experiential component of social work education. 2. Participants will be able to differentiate between simulation-based learning for experience vs. assessment purposes and learn about four (4) different simulation activities. 3. Participants will be able to identify benefits of simulation-based learning for preparing social work students for anti-racist practice.
