Higher education leadership is multidimensional and complex. Leaders are forced daily to address competing internal and external interest while navigating federal/state mandates, enrollment cliff, campus crisis, shrinking budgets, personnel, and unfortunately what has become too often a need to justify our need in a national platform. Highjacked by an occupational and political high tempo, leaders are left with little time to reflect on their values with often dire consequences. Understanding one’s values is a fundamental necessity in order to succeed in higher education leadership.
